Report includes 89 AI policy recommendations

On Tuesday, the House’s Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence released its 250-page AI policy plan, including principles, forward-looking recommendations, and bipartisan policy proposals for responding to AI. Led by Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-CA) and Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), the task force brings together lawmakers with AI expertise and leaders from relevant committees of jurisdiction. Altogether, the report offers 89 AI policy recommendations. Read the full report from the Bipartisan Task Force on AI here.

“If the Senate put out a roadmap, then the House just put out a full guidebook for the 119th Congress,” said ARI President Brad Carson. “Together, the House and Senate reports are a strong indicator we’re going to see real legislative movement on AI policy next year. Lawmakers are doing their research, they’re working across the aisle, and they see the implications of AI across a spectrum of issue areas, from our workforce, to national security, to our kids. The difference in how Congress is approaching AI and lawmakers’ delayed response to social media is night and day.”

The House report recommends Congress move forward with a sectoral approach to AI policymaking that keeps humans at the center of AI decision making. The report is split into 15 chapters that focus on different areas of AI policy, including data privacy, national security, research and development, civil rights and civil liberties, education and workforce, small business, and more.
