Bipartisan bills have cleared committee, ready for consideration

On Thursday, Americans for Responsible Innovation announced its Lame Duck Dozen list – a list of twelve bipartisan AI bills Congress should take up before the end of the year. The list includes only legislation that has passed committee and has cosponsors on both sides of the aisle. All bills on the list are low-cost, with a projected expense of under $50 million.

The Lame Duck Dozen AI bills include:

1. Future of AI Innovation Act (S. 4178)

2. AI Advancement and Reliability Act (H.R. 9497)

3. DEFIANCE Act (S. 3696)

4. Energy Permitting Reform Act (S. 4753)

5. Remote Access Security Act (H.R. 8152)

6. Promoting United States Leadership in Standards Act (S.3849)

7. Workforce for AI Trust Act (H.R. 9215)

8. Expanding AI Voices Act (H.R. 9403)

9. Nucleic Acid Standards for Biosecurity Act (H.R. 9194)

10. AI Incident Reporting and Security Enhancement Act (H.R. 9720)

11. Preventing Adversaries from Developing Critical Capabilities Act (H.R. 6349)

12. NSF AI Education Act of 2024 (S. 4394)

“These should be layups,” said Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Doug Calidas. “We just had an election, and AI policy is going to look different next year. But in the meantime, Congress should do the basics on AI. There’s no reason people should have to wait until 2025 to see lawmakers address issues like non-consensual abusive images on the internet.”
