Committee’s leading work on China and threats to US AI supremacy must continue in the 119th Congress

Americans for Responsible Innovation is urging Republican leaders in the House to reconstitute the Select Committee on the CCP for the 119th Congress. In a letter to House leadership this week, ARI highlighted the committee’s critical work investigating China’s race for AI dominance and its leading role in recommending a legislative course of action for Congress.

This year, the Select Committee wrote a playbook including guidance on how to prevent U.S. technology and capital from supporting the PRC and CCP human rights abuses. Select Committee leaders have also advocated for legislation, including the ENFORCE Act and the STAR Act, which together would bolster U.S. competitiveness and keep the CCP from appropriating critical AI technology.

“The CCP is weaponizing AI, stealing technology, and violating human rights — and they’re doing it with the help of US investments and innovations,” said ARI Senior VP of Government Affairs Satya Thallam. “We have to get tough on the competition, and the Select Committee has put together a roadmap for policymakers on how to do that. Pulling the plug now on the Select Committee would be a gift to Beijing.”
