Coalition urges Congress to pass Energy Permitting Reform Act in lame duck
On Tuesday, a coalition of nine tech and civil society organizations called on leaders in Congress to move energy permitting reform legislation forward in the lame duck, citing growing demand for energy in order to keep the U.S. innovation economy globally competitive. The letter specifically urges Congress to take up the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024, a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) that would accelerate the development of critical energy infrastructure. Signing organizations included Americans for Responsible Innovation, Chamber of Progress, ClearPath Action, Inclusive Abundance Action, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), Institute for Progress, NetChoice, and TechNet.
“New energy infrastructure is good for national security, good for climate, good for consumer prices, and good for innovation,” said Americans for Responsible Innovation President Brad Carson. “Right now, many US companies are seeing a years-long wait time for energy hookups in states across the country. In today’s fast-paced global economy, those kinds of delays threaten to leave the US dead in the water. Permitting reform is a common-ground answer to the issue — one that civil society groups, industry, and both parties can agree on.”
